Bokashi Bran
Products:
- Bokashi Bran & Buckets
Bokashi Bran is brewed in Gauteng. It was established with a vision to produce the highest quality bokashi with the aim of diverting food waste from our landfills to save space, assist in reducing Greenhouse gas emissions by 98% and to encourage recycling opportunities within our communities.
Bokashi is wheaten-bran that has been brewed with effective micro-organisms (EM). It ferments food waste instead of the food waste rotting. Once the food waste has been fermented, it is converted into compost by mixing with garden waste. Using Bokashi means that all your food waste (even meat!) can be composted and used in your garden. Though Bokashi Bran follows the original Japanese technology, the microbes used to create it are found and sourced in South African soil.

Eikelaan Farm, located in Tulbach, produces a variety of fresh vegetables, farm eggs, preserves and other products. Lynette’s organic vegetables are highly sought after locally and at Cape Town and Stellenbosch markets. Lynette grows all her vegetables using organic methods. This starts with soil improvement: healthy soil = healthy plants. Companion planting and the use of green manures also assist in growing healthy, nutritious plants which are naturally more resistant to disease. Growing food organically is labour intensive. Lynette employs two full time gardeners and two women for picking & packing. The farm has given the farm workers a section of land where they can grow their own produce, of which excess is sold back to the farm. Lynette also sources vegetables from workers on neighbouring farms and other valley locals who grow their produce organically, creating much needed additional income within the community. The Eikelaan hens have access to the outdoors during daylight hours so they can scratch and sunbathe. They love to scratch and eat the weeds and left over vegetables provided from the garden. Eikelaan also has its own olive grove. Olives are harvested in autumn and the oil is pressed locally. Other Olive products include tapenade and black or green olives in brine. A variety of other seasonal produce is available from home made preserves and jams to pizzas and venison.
The farm has beautiful accommodation available and welcomes visitors. Find out more at https://eikelaan.com

Montagu Cheese
Products:
- Cheese
- Butter
- Milk
- Cream
Delicious Dutch Cheese made in Montagu following old recipes, using old-fashioned cheese presses.
“Our products are made from free range, full cream jersey cow milk. Our milk is batch pasterised at a lower heat. We only add non animal rennet and dairy cultures to our cheese (salt is added to cheddar – non iodated inland pan salt). Our cheese matures at 16 degrees and is turned every couple of days, wiped down with apple cider vinegar and coated with a very small amount of olive oil to continue maturing. The cheese coat is painted after a week or so maturing – this is a natural cheese coat made out of vegetables. This coat is necessary to slow the speed of dehydration and make sure the cheese matures but stays creamy. Our butter is made in a churn from pure jersey cream. It is then kneaded by hand to get water out, salt is added (if salted blocks required) and then it is blocked by hand. We use no machines in the butter process after churning so our butter doesn’t look perfect – we use compostable butter paper to wrap our butter. Our cream cheese and cottage cheese is made following a traditional recipe using milk, cream and buttermilk (that we get when making butter).”

My Dad’s Honey
Products:
- Honey
My Dads Honey is pure, raw, untreated, unheated honey that has been ethically farmed. The hives are placed mainly on land with Gum plantations or vast tracts of Fynbos in the Helderberg, Overberg and Walker Bay Conservatory areas of the Western Cape. My Dad’s Honey relies on the co-operation of farmers and believes in the respect of the environment, co-labourers and colleagues. This honey is badger friendly.
Honey types are seasonal, as bees move to forage where they can. January to April, when the Gum Trees are flowering, is usually when Eucalyptus Honey is available. The bees then move on to Fynbos. From August to October the bees focus on Canola, where they gather strength for pollination and produce creamed honey (so called for its colour and because it is ‘whipped’ to break down the crystals and make it more spreadable – nothing is added to creamed honey!) Sometimes Canola and Fynbos honeys are mixed and are then labelled as such. This will usually look like Fynbos but crystallise more rapidly. In October/November the bees produce a tasty pale Blue Flower Honey labelled as Fynbos.
The beekeeper, Graham Hill, is also a recognised bee and wasp remover. He does not charge for this service, using it as way to “pay back” to the community they live in.

Pesto Princess
Products:
- Pesto
- Hummus
- Cooking Sauces
- Fresh Soup
From humble beginnings in an Obs kitchen 16 years ago, Pesto Princess has now become a household name – all the time maintaining its integrity as both a local and a very lekka product. “We destalk the basil by hand and only use the soft leaves to produce a creamy sauce. We peel our own garlic, and grate our own cheese, so that we can guarantee there are no nasties in your product. We buy our herbs from small scale farmers wherever possible, who use organic sprays for pest control, and farm sustainably. We love local, and for that reason have ditched the pine nut in favour of cashews and almonds which are grown closer to home. We use glass jars since they are the best keeper of food products and can be recycled.”
